The Maine Department of Education is providing scholarships for teachers to achieve certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Teachers who are employed in a school in which at least 50% or more students qualify for free or reduced lunch or who work in an identified shortage area are prioritized for scholarships.
We are spotlighting this practice because the state recognizes a need for more high-quality teachers to help address the impact of the pandemic on student learning. With the influx of relief funds, Maine now has more capacity and resources to ensure that financial barriers are removed for teachers to pursue this high-level certification.
